Rant & Raves for Thursday, March 7, 2013

VALDOSTA — Thank you, Advanced Disposal, for starting to recycle bottles! This is so necessary and better for our county. You listened to us and changed your policy. Thank you very much.

Could someone please tell me what to do or who to call when there's a car with its bass thumping? I don't want to call 911 but it's ridiculous. I work in an office around the busiest area of Valdosta and someone likes to come and sit in the parking lot with their bass thumping so hard, it hurts my ears.

Maybe it's time for new leadership in the area that will listen to the people instead of acting like Washington and telling us what we want.

I am sure our local leaders will tell us, “if we only had a little more of your money we could move the Sewage Treatment Plant.” What have you done with our money the last 40 years it’s been there?

The city and county should take care of water, sewage and trash before business parks, parking garages, auditorium, trips, etc. We have trash along the roads and sewage in the rivers.

The Super Speeder Law applies when you are cited 85 mph or more on multi-lane roads, such as I-75, and 75 mph or more on two-lane roads.

Do unto others as you wish others would do to you. I am glad we have better neighbors north of us who don't dump their sewage into their rivers unlike what we did to Florida.

The city decided to save $500,000 and dump millions of gallons of sewage into the river. I wish the EPA could fine our individual officials for not doing their job over the last 40 years.

I was driving through Valdosta on Saturday. There was smoke everywhere where people were burning leaves, there was trash along the side of the roads from closed dumps, and I understand that sewage is in the rivers from the open sewage plant. Next time, I will stay on the freeway.

People don't seem to care, we were pumping our sewage into the river flowing down into Florida. I wonder, if Tifton was pumping their sewage directly into the aquifer if people here would care a little more.

Thank you, Lt. Willis with the Valdosta Fire Department for all of your hard work last week and through the weekend helping us on Meadowbrook Drive. You were an absolute saving grace! We appreciate it more than you will ever know.

A rave to the Valdosta Sewage Treatment Plant for helping Florida grow such large oranges.

I am a student at Valdosta State University, I pay thousands of dollars in tuition, but I am not allowed to use the Student Recreation Center because I am not taking summer classes. I was told that I have to pay $45 to use the Rec Center during the summer. As if I don't pay enough already... Utterly ridiculous.

Truly embarrassing that our community euthanizes 12 animals daily. Our citizenry hasn’t progressed to understand responsibility. The end result in these horrible economic times is the ongoing suffering of animals. Other locales nearby have solved this problem; mandatory spay/neuter and breeding licenses are needed to stop this scourge. Let’s get serious, please!

I think what the County Commissioners  are doing to Deep South Sanitation is outrageous and I think the citizens of Lowndes County should remember this during the next election. They are giving away freedom of choice. This man had this trash collection before Advanced.

The City of Valdosta needs another cable company! Competition is a great thing.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm quite pleased with Advanced Disposal. I'm paying less than I paid for service with Veolia, the service is reliable and they offer a large recycling bin. I don't understand what's "socialist" about offering county residents affordable, reliable service.

Closing the trash drop off was a big mistake. I live in Stone Creek so now I can’t put anything beside the street, now I have to haul it to the landfill and pay by weight. I had to pay $15, then I have to pay the trash pick up monthly. Something is wrong in this picture. I have a lot of yard waste, so now I have to take it to the landfill every time I clean yards.

I live in Brooks County. A while back, a limb fell at the edge of my yard. I called the road department asking to remove it. I was told they could not help because it was on private property. Later driving down Johnson Short Road, I saw the road department removing limbs from a yard. I have found out the limbs were on private property.

Do people in Valdosta not understand that when you lag behind at a green light there are people behind you that will not make the green light due to your inconsideration?

Mosquitoes in the city are growing fast. But sanitation and cable bills in so-called "Metro Valdosta" are growing even faster!

We live in Stone Creek and couldn't be happier with Deep South Sanitation! They are the best. People don't realize that they come get your trash can and put it back on the side of the house! Keep fighting Deep South, and know you have our support!
