Rant & Raves for Wednesday, September 26, 2012

VALDOSTA — I agree with the person about people having children before marriage. It's a shame that people act like it's no big deal. They glorify it and make it seem like it's OK. Many of these children end up with no father figure!

The morals in this country have gone to nothing. We all have to meet our maker one day and believe me, He will know how you have lived.

If you are a dog owner in town or the country, have a secure fenced-in area or don't have one. Don't expect a dog to not wander off. They don't know danger.

To the person complaining about speeders on Berkley Drive: Regardless of whether or not the drivers are speeding, your pets should not be in the road per the City of Valdosta animal control ordinance. What if a non-speeding driver swerves to avoid hitting your dog in the road and hits a child on the side of the road?

Shutting down major thoroughfares for a high school parade is a nuisance to say the least. Besides, what's the deal about "homecoming" anyway? As far as I can see, no one ever leaves this place.

Here's a crazy idea. Let's take the billions of tax payers dollars in aid we send to these other countries that are killing Americans, and give it to Americans. Just a thought. We have to look out for one another because our government surely isn't.

Rave for Valdosta Family Medicine! Always great care from the front desk all the way to the exam room! Clean and neat office, professional stuff and attentive to the needs of the patient. Great job to you all and thanks for being there!

How much more can I squeeze out of my check? Utilities, gas, groceries and insurance keep going up. I rarely go out to eat, don’t have clothes for every season or designer anything. I don’t have any major credit cards and I have to make my car payment so I can drive to my job.

Why do you have such a problem with a school allowing a day (45 minutes actually) so that grandparents can visit their grandchild in school? My son and his grandmother had a great time and they were both grateful to be able to see each other in that environment. School should have its fun moments. Let them be kids, for goodness sake.

Parades in Valdosta have been going down Patterson Street for many years. If you can’t find your way around the parade in that area, maybe you need a map or better yet, get out your GPS.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
