Rant and Raves for Thursday, September 27

VALDOSTA — To the person complaining about a parade that has been going on for years: move! It happens every year. In such a small town, you would think people would be happy to see a parade every now and then.

If President Obama is elected for a second term in November, will he blame the economic mess this country is in on himself?

So, why does the Sheriff's Office have a traffic unit? I have seen more fatal accidents in the last five months than ever it seems. What are we using the money for?

To the person on Berkley Drive complaining about pets getting hit and killed: Here is a novel idea, keep your pet in the house or at the very least out of the street.

To the person with pulmonary arterial hypertension, an invisible disease. Your privilege is being ruined by people who deliver the handicapped person to the door while parked in the fire lane, then park in the handicap spot. Or the handicapped person who parks in "their" spot then sits in the car while the healthy companion does the shopping.

Enough of the fundraisers already. Schools have cookie dough fund-raisers, then a Promoting Family Health and Fitness in their gym. What's wrong with this picture?

Perhaps the schools should not have Pajama Day. Maybe this is what leads people to think they should wear their old, faded, ragged, dirty pajamas in public. Yuck!

Huge rave to Kevin from Valdosta Pest Control. He’s a super nice guy who   really cares about his work. Always goes above and beyond. Thank You!

All these 'shake and bake' truck driving schools are the reason you have rude, inconsiderate and inexperienced truck trivers on the interstate.

Most all of us can comment on the bad referee calls made by the fill-in refs over the weekend. It is saturated with TV coverage. How many of us can tell you anything about the troops killed over the weekend defending our country?

To the guy in the Blue Audi on Antioch Church Road: I have your tag number. The next time you will be reported for trespassing.

I really enjoyed volunteering at Westside Elementary's Book Fair. All of the students were very polite and used their manners. I am glad our children attend this school!

A huge rave to all the bands that performed at the Southern Open. Your hard work and dedication shows!

I am a student at Valdosta State University, I pay thousands of dollars in tuition, but I am not allowed to use the Student Recreation Center because I am not taking summer classes. I was told that I have to pay $45 to use the Rec Center during the summer. As if I don't pay enough already... Utterly ridiculous.

Truly embarrassing that our community euthanizes 12 animals daily. Our citizenry hasn’t progressed to understand responsibility. The end result in these horrible economic times is the ongoing suffering of animals. Other locales nearby have solved this problem; mandatory spay/neuter and breeding licenses are needed to stop this scourge. Let’s get serious, please!

I think what the County Commissioners  are doing to Deep South Sanitation is outrageous and I think the citizens of Lowndes County should remember this during the next election. They are giving away freedom of choice. This man had this trash collection before Advanced.

The City of Valdosta needs another cable company! Competition is a great thing.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm quite pleased with Advanced Disposal. I'm paying less than I paid for service with Veolia, the service is reliable and they offer a large recycling bin. I don't understand what's "socialist" about offering county residents affordable, reliable service.

Closing the trash drop off was a big mistake. I live in Stone Creek so now I can’t put anything beside the street, now I have to haul it to the landfill and pay by weight. I had to pay $15, then I have to pay the trash pick up monthly. Something is wrong in this picture. I have a lot of yard waste, so now I have to take it to the landfill every time I clean yards.

I live in Brooks County. A while back, a limb fell at the edge of my yard. I called the road department asking to remove it. I was told they could not help because it was on private property. Later driving down Johnson Short Road, I saw the road department removing limbs from a yard. I have found out the limbs were on private property.

Do people in Valdosta not understand that when you lag behind at a green light there are people behind you that will not make the green light due to your inconsideration?

Mosquitoes in the city are growing fast. But sanitation and cable bills in so-called "Metro Valdosta" are growing even faster!

We live in Stone Creek and couldn't be happier with Deep South Sanitation! They are the best. People don't realize that they come get your trash can and put it back on the side of the house! Keep fighting Deep South, and know you have our support!
