Rant & Rave for Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012

- — I received a letter in the mail advising me that the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners are closing the recycle centers. The letter was on a blank sheet of paper. No letterhead or signature. Just a simple thank you. How professional on the part of our commissioners, but par for the course.

A huge thank you to Cathy in the Appliance Department at Lowe's. Her years of experience in working with appliances makes her advice unbeatable.

Something for the voters to think about from the elected officials we send to Washington. They want to cut money from Medicare, limit Social Security raises and many other things, things that don’t harm them but they never say anything about their salaries, which shouldn’t be what they make, since it is supposed to be an honor and privilege to serve the people. Start with their salaries first, and their benefits. If they truly want to help with the budget, after all, they only work part-time.

With all the garbage being dumped in the county and beside the road, why don’t the commissioners charge a fee to anyone that wants to use the recycling center? Two dollars for a normal truck load, $5 for truck and trailer. Most people only get to work in their yard until Saturday, but don’t want the waste in front of their house.

I Would like to thank Tina Chancy and the Chancy family at Chancy's Drug store for opening up their hearts to help a family during their time of need. This is how God let us know that He is watching over us thru the work of others.

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to everybody and if you are able or have a chance to help a person or family in these hard times please do so. It will make your Christmas even better to know you helped someone that needed it.

To the very generous person, who paid for dinner for two elderly people on Sunday night at the Olive Garden, a big thank you. We were celebrating a 93rd birthday and you made it even more special. God bless you.

To Lake Park Methodist Church, your cantata and youth skit was fantastic. Best show I’ve seen in a very long time. We would love to see an encore. Thank you.

Once again we had great food at The Lighthouse Grill in Ray City. Thanks Dave! Delmonico grilled perfectly.

Coach Freeman in Brooks County, we are so proud of you for giving the fans a great season and perfect season. Keep up the good work.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.
