To the person who said, “kids need better role models and that single parent households just don’t cut it.” Tell this to the dad who lost his wife in a car accident or tell this to the mom who lost her husband to cancer, give me a break! Good role models aren’t just a mom and dad that live together in one house! Kids should encounter great role models everywhere.
It costs a business money everytime they swipe a debit/credit card. Checks do not incur this fee. Most small businesses cannot afford to pay the charge for you and nor should governments (such as the tag office). Why should other taxpayers be forced to pay for your convenience?
I may not be a member of some Indian tribe but I am definitely a “native American” because I was born here. That’s what the word “native” means. Get your facts straight. Words actually have meanings.
In response to a recent rant, I am personally offended by the comment “single parent households just don’t cut it.” I would gladly introduce you to my wonderful, smart, engaging children. I was a single parent for 14 years, not by choice, by circumstance. Before you judge, please be a little more compassionate.
Who do you think is paying for your Social Security check which you are receiving, or hoping to receive?
I truly wish that the good people of Valdosta would stop trusting the mainstream news and start looking for the truth for themselves. To the people that are complaining about our President and racism, they need to start looking at the facts and not be afraid of the truth.
We had family visiting over the Fourth of July. We all went to “Go, Dog. Go!” at VSU (Peach State theatre group). The show was outstanding. Thanks for some good inside fun for all ages on these hot summer days.
A big thank you to the McKey Plantation Homeowners Association for the Fourth of July cookout and neighborhood parade! Another example of why this is the best neighborhood in Valdosta!
Stay off Facebook if all you want to do is criticize and make fun of people and their pictures. Grow up and shame on you!
If you are waiting on money to buy true happiness, it ain’t going to happen. Money makes life a little easier, but it can’t buy you real friends and joy. It’s sad when your only goal in life is to have the largest house, most expensive car and talk about all the money you make.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
