Rant & Rave for Friday, March 3, 2013

-- — People who are in the mental health business should be extra skilled in how to treat fellow human beings, and this includes their own employees. Treat others as you would want to be treated.

Parents, please check the weather before sending your children to school. It is not warm enough for them to wear summer clothes! Save the shorts, skirts and summer tops for April.

The Vatican should look to the west to solve their dilemma. For the first time in 600 years, they will have two living Popes and are in a panic at all the conflict this will produce. Today in the USA, we have five living Presidents but only one has the keys to the White House.

I really don't know that I like the police ticketing those asking for money. I understand that many of them probably have money and are just scamming people but there are others who really do need help. I also understand they could go to LAMP and other places for help and they should. But is it necessary to ticket them? Can't you just stop and tell them to move on and tell them about LAMP, Goodwill, etc.?

Since I often see rants about teachers not returning parent e-mails and messages, can I say how disappointing it is as a teacher when I try to get information out to parents and you don't respond to my e-mails? Parents please make certain the school has your current e-mail address, and please respond when I send you information about your child's progress.

I do not own an AR-15, but I insist on having access to one so I have the same fire power as the bad guys. Also, the elites in Washington are protected by these weapons, so the family of every citizen deserves the same protection.

In fewer than three months, Lowndes County will have the distinction of Filthiest County in South Georgia. The trash on the sides of the roads and ditches is steadily multiplying. Bring the dumps or a dump back!

I agree whole-heartedley with the sentiment that many of today's teens and kids have little respect or manners. However, I would like to point out that in the past half dozen visits to Publix, I have had nothing but amazingly polite teenage cashiers and baggers.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
