Raves for Wednesday, March 6, 2013

VALDOSTA — Editor's Note: Every Wednesday in 2013, the Times is only publishing raves.

Rave to the heart surgery center at SGMC. I had heart surgery last week and the service there was excellent. They said they strive for a 5. I give them a 6. Thank you so much, SGMC!

Raves to the Valdosta  Board of Education for hiring  Marty Roesch for new superintendent. That was a stroke of genius.

A big thank you to the gentleman who led me in his truck to Harrington Funeral Home on Friday. I was not sure where it was and he helped me find it to attend the wake of a family member of a dear friend of mine. Thank you for that.

A big rave to our PJ’s at Moody and the National Geographic series that comes on Monday nights at 10 p.m. It makes you very humble. We are very proud of them.

Rave to the nice gentleman who helped me last Thursday on the 84 exit. My car stalled and he took the time to make sure I got safely out of the way of traffic. So glad to know that we still have caring people out there!

My aunt is here from Alabama and had a low tire light on and went to Ray Norton Tire and Auto. While she was there, Jim helped her. He reset her low tire light for her and cleaned her windshield.  Now that is what I call customer service.

Jeff who works for Kinsey Heating and Air is very professional and does great work. Thank you, Kinsey, for hiring such a sweet wonderful  guy as Jeff.

A big thank you to Debra at South Georgia Regional Library who went beyond her duty to help me find information on Braille for my grandson at school. Thank you very much.

A big shout out to Len Robbins for his Sunday column in which he exposes the shams that are HB 1133 and now, HB 140. I will be contacting my state legislators as well, Mr. Robbins.

I just want to say great job to the Valdosta City Schools for choosing Marty Rosech as new superintendent.

A big rave to Valdosta for the new road and traffic light near the Drury Inn.  That is such an improvement. Many, many thanks and many, many raves.

Mega raves to the nurses on duty at Smith Northview on Feb. 26, working in pre-admissions, recovery, and post-op outpatient services. Their excellent care and concern made an unpleasant procedure bearable. Thank you all.

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
