It’s obvious that the Lowndes school board members have never been in the classroom. The new grading system is an embarrassment to all of us in the community. There goes the incentive for good students to do well!
I’m getting really frustrated. I’m trying to find out about starting a home-based baking business. I’ve heard there is supposed to be a new Georgia Cottage Food Law in the works. Does anyone know anything about this new law?
I worked for Lowndes County Schools for 26 years and always had to defend a low student grade to the administration. It was always my fault because I did not motivate the student to want to work hard. The student’s attitude and parents’ concern was not taken into account. So this is not new just in the paper for public knowledge. Also why isn’t a D used to show a student working below average?
For those of you who are as upset as I am about the Lowndes County Schools’ new grading policy, the next school board meeting will be held on Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Lowndes County Schools Central office on Norman Drive. Maybe if we parents show up at the meeting, we’ll get their attention.
Instead of sending in Rants and Raves to The Valdosta Daily Times about the school grading policy, why don’t you “man up” and take the fight to the school board, make them answer your questions. Remember, you do not work for them, you are their boss! It is called being an elected official.
A huge rave for “Leading Ladies!” It’s at The Dosta Playhouse and so funny. What an evening. We laughed solid for over 2 hours. The cast is outstanding and for pure fun and great laughs, don’t miss it! This is local talent, local theatre! One of the best we’ve ever seen.
TOPS IN BLUE: Awesome. Thank you, Air Force!
I can see by the grading policy that NCLB is still degrading the academic standards of the public schools. No one has the guts to address what the real problem in the schools is and that is neglectful parenting.
Police vehicles are exempt from window-tint regulations under Georgia laws. Sorry, nice try to make law enforcement look bad.
Mastery of learning and assessments are two separate topics. You can do something until you believe it is mastered and then evaluate based on the criteria set by the standard. Let’s teach it and then evaluate. Let the cards lay as they fall. Stop spoon feeding our children.

No wonder! I haven’t seen the Peanut Lady at my son’s baseball game in a while. ... The Peanut Lady has been selling at ball games forever. Shame on whoever banned the Peanut Lady!

I know two LMS students who have continuously been in trouble this year and had mostly failing grades; however, now they are being promoted because teachers no longer can give zeros, but have to record a 60, even for assignments not turned in! How is it ethical to give grades that weren’t earned and what does this teach about responsibility and consequence?

If you cannot watch your children, perhaps you shouldn’t have children.

Concerning taking up multiple parking spots in “public” lots. Remember that these are mostly on private lots (including Walmart) and the only reason they don’t say anything is because they don’t want you taking your money elsewhere. A little courtesy, especially on busy days, goes a long way.

Are we really replacing hard-working persons with illegal aliens just to save a few dollars? Business owners should be wary and take care of those who have helped them get where they are now!

To the person who is referring to people complaining about people being on welfare; no one was pin-pointing you. I have been simply referring to the people to openly advertise how they cheat the system and never have to work, and live better than I do. And, for your information, I too am a single mother who struggles everyday to provide for my son. So, honey, I have walked a mile if not more in my own shoes of despair.

I have also heard the gunshots in Hahira. I’ve lived there for years but it seems to have gotten worse lately. I tried to tell a policeman in the store the other day but ... The last time I heard the shots was actually a couple Sundays ago, around lunchtime. I've assumed it was people hunting in the woods around Union Road but the shot pattern didn’t sound conducive to this last time.

Raves and thanks to SODEXO, who keeps our little part of Lowndes County (Mineola) clean and beautiful. We appreciate it!

I too would like to see a minor league baseball team located in Valdosta, but I doubt if it would be supported well enough to justify.
