VALDOSTA — Really, a cocktail “how to” during the inauguration week for Dr. McKinney at a university that just finished sessions warning its students to avoid the problems associated with alcohol while they are on spring break?

We need a good class action suit on the individuals that shut the Treatment Facility down without proper authorization from EPD or EPA. I don't think they should have done it. The property owners that the city damaged should sue. They had plenty of time to rebuild the berm. No excuses, just asleep at the wheel. Floriday, too.

Nashville, whoever drives the yellow church vans on Saturdays passing out lunches to the children, you come by way too fast. The children cannot stand out in the cold and rain, and you come by at 10:30 sometimes and 11 others. They never know what time you'll be there. They cannot hear the music you play until you've gotten way past their houses. Please slow down. The children love getting the meals but it's not worth running down the road trying to stop you.

Citizens do have the right to tell others to turn down the music if they are violating the law. Music can't be heard 100 feet from the source. The police will come out but if they can’t hear it, they will say we can’t do anything about it. Any time someone breaks the law, citizens have the right to stand up and say something.

Here’s hoping our local city and county non-leaders enjoyed their retreat at Lenox River. As far as a new vote on SPLOST? I will be voting “No” due to the county privatizing garbage collection and the city’s irresponsible handling of the sewage spill. Stop spending money on retreats.

A citizen may not have the authority to tell someone to turn down their music. However, they do have a right to ask someone to turn down their music. But, after the incident in Hahira where the young man was killed when approaching his neighbor, I agree your best bet is to call your local police department.

Please be responsible with your small dogs when they are outside. Stay with them. They depend on your protection as a child would. Other animals, hawks, owls, etc., take them in a blink of an eye. Don’t be naïve to think there aren't any around, because they are everywhere.

I found a list of SPLOST projects on the city website and it's listed by years. Good information to have.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
