We need a new sewage treatment plant as soon as possible. I will be glad to pay extra taxes to get the job done. We need to postpone building a new library because the new treatment is an absolute necessity. Let’s quit wasting time.
Really unbelievable to think that City Leaders chose to not aggressively fight off the pending flood waters around the aater/sewer plant, thus resulting in the release of raw sewage into the Withlacoochee River. Can't think this will be well received by the likes of towns/cities downstream and the EPA. Wow.
It is very disappointing The Valdosta Times did not call the City out for their very poor judgment in not protecting the sewage plant from the flooding. Face it, the city of Valdosta made a financial decision with no regards for the neighbors to the south. Shame on them and the VDT.
Don't blame the current problems on SPLOST being voted down. SPLOST is still in effect until December 2013. The money collected after this year would not have solved the flooding of the sewage plant. That decision was already made by city officials.
If you got a super speeder ticket, you apparently were going at least 20 mph over the posted speed limit. Also, it is not Georgia's job to "post signs" of new laws, although it was posted in the newspaper.
The police do not generally ticket someone who is pandering on the first or even second contact. They do just as you suggest. My husband (a cop) has even come home to get clothes and food for them and dog food for their dogs! But when they have been helped, taken to help and continue to pander despite being told it is against the law, they get cited. The police are not without compassion.
Something I find incredibly rude — when a cashier starts checking out the next person in line, before the other person has gotten his items together and walked on. I understand cashiers are under a time crunch. They're expected to get people through quickly. But they're also expected to be polite. Nothing worse than trying to put your card back in your wallet and put groceries in your buggy and the cashier is already scanning the next person's items. And it's just as bad switched around. One cashier got mad at me the other day because I was waiting on the person in front to finish and move before I shoved them out of the way to scan my card.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.
