Rant & Raves for Thursday, October 25, 2012

VALDOSTA — Yes to SPLOST: Being a sales tax, outsiders and travelers “contribute,” as well as those with unreported income sources like drug sales, tax-cheating, etc. We already pay this, so a “yes” vote won’t “increase” our taxes.

I get as annoyed as the next person over a kid screaming in a store/ restaurant. But to be rude and bang your silverware on the table? You will never understand how it feels until you’re in the parents’ shoes. My child never did this; we could enjoy dinner out with no worries, from birth till now. That doesn’t make those people bad parents. Give them a minute and try to let them calm the child; if it doesn’t work, absolutely, they should leave.

Some people are naturally inclined to be heavy, and struggle their entire lives. But the other day, I watched two morbidly obese parents force their already obese child to finish large quantities of food at a buffet. The child was full, but they literally forced him to keep eating. Pathetic.

LMS sixth-grade football coaches are great and dedicated to all their players. It’s wonderful your child goes to every practice and he does get to play a couple of plays each game. You can only have 11 players on the field at any one time so they make it fair for all the kids.

Could someone please help me? I heard about something called black robes and white horses that helps battered women. I need help.

To the person who wrote the post “What country do you think poses the greatest security threat to the U.S.?” Didn’t you watch the debate?

Valdosta was named the third poorest city in America in a NBCnews.com article a couple of days ago. From the response from our local leaders, I get the feeling that is just the way they like things around here. VDT put out an article about how the numbers must be off.

I wonder which teacher sent in the rave for bus tours. I am sure it wasn’t a parent.

Why waste gas touring students’ neighborhoods when books can be given out at school? Are they judging our homes?

We are having to take our children out of town for their dental appointments. What these dentists charge is ridiculous! And we have dental insurance!

Big rave to coaches Brown, Mitchell, High, Jake, Roger and Robby for all your hard work and dedication to the boys on your Bulldog team. It’s great to be part of this family!

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
