Rant & Rave for Monday, Sept. 24, 2012

-- — To the person that said people shouldn’t use their family’s handicapped parking permits: I get funny looks all of the time when I park my car in the handicapped space because I don’t look sick or disabled. However, I have a very serious, incurable lung disease called pulmonary arterial hypertension. Some diseases are invisible. Mine is one of them.

The new administration’s “push” to improve things at Lowndes High School has resulted in only increases in paperwork for teachers. The number of emails from these new administrators is unbelievable. Nothing from them deals with improvements in instruction, only on more testing and more reporting of grades.

I live on Berkley Drive and this is the second time this month an animal has been hit and killed on this road by people speeding! I think speed bumps or something to slow people down on this road should be installed. What if it was a child running out in the road, and because of how fast the people were going they couldn’t stop?

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage. Did they stop teaching kids this rhyme? This is not how it happens today.

A huge rave to Nina King for her actions throughout all the mill vote. When I am her age, I want half her guts and spunk. So many agree with her, but are afraid to speak publicly against the actions of the owners and the city. It must be great  going to bed each night knowing you stood up for what you believed in.

You are right about the strain on Social Security: the federal government continues to raid SS on a regular basis. They have no problem removing our dollars that are removed from our paychecks each week to use in many other areas. This is money we have contributed over the years and is not an entitlement but our funds. If they would keep their hands off SS, it would remain solvent for more years than the government says it will.

If the Social Security would take time to screen those who are not disabled, perhaps you could really retire and give someone else a chance to have a job.

Grandparents love their grandchildren, but would love to have free time. You are made to feel guilty if you don’t help.

Parents drop their kids off at the mall, movies, grandparents or friends homes for someone else to raise them. Just because a child is a teen, it doesn’t mean they are mentally mature to react in wrong situations.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.
