I think I pay enough in taxes already. I don’t mind paying my fair share but I am not so sure that the money would go where they say it will. What about all the money they get now. Stop the waste and you wouldn’t need SPLOST. My family lives on a fixed income maybe the government should get rid of some people and get one that can balance the budget and make some tough calls.
I am an anti-tax conservative and I voted for SPLOST. Sometimes paying a bit more on a limited basis is worth the benefit that comes with it. Please don’t lump all of us conservatives in the same bin. I’m on your side on this one.
Just read through the Defense mandatory budget cuts. Retired military veterans will be required to pay the first $2,500 of medical care. Minimum pay increases for the next three years for all serving, retired and disabled veterans. Happy Veterans Day!
What Valdosta and Lowndes County residents need to do is get more active in their local government meetings. There would be more accountability and input for government spending (waste in most cases). SPLOST is not the answer. Keep raising taxes, so you can spend just because. There has to be more responsible spending. My pockets are worn out and empty because of taxes and more taxes.
If people took care of their teeth and themselves they would not have to spend so much at doctors and dentists. As for nails, hair-dos and other beauty needs, all are available in any store, or have you not heard of the beauty section?
If high cost tickets were given out for those who tailgate, our city would be rich.
Can we please get a right turning lane on Bemiss and Perimeter? That corner can be reduced if we had one. The other three sections of that corner has a right turning lane. Across from First State Bank.
I wish the clerks at the gas stations stop looking at me funny when I come in to get less than $8 for gas. I am struggling just like everyone else.
Can people learn to drive?! Slower traffic, please, get into your right lane.
The eastside and southside will be hurt by SPLOST VII’s defeat.
It may take years and years to undo the mess that George Bush has made. All the lives that were lost for nothing in Iraq and Afghanistan are not replaceable. That is the worst part of what he did.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
