Rant & Raves for Thursday, December 13, 2012

-- — Some taxes are used for roadside clean-up. Many taxpayers fearlessly litter roadsides to get a benefit from that fee. Why pay two dumping taxes? But litterers give law enforcement many chances to fine them, to get more revenues. Since revenues from litter fines are not celebrated, must be a small amount vs. the opportunity.

The Obama administration has been nothing but a roadblock when states have tried to enact legislation to stop illegal immigration claiming it's federal. Now that states are making pot legal which also conflicts with federal law, nothing from Obama. I guess if you're a law breaker, it's all good. .

That "Seasons Greetings" sign has been there every Christmas for years. Why are you just now starting to complain about it? There is no "War on Christmas"! Your remote must be stuck on Fox News.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the good work the Salvation Army does and thank all the red kettle bell ringers. Merry Christmas!

If every driver backed up on Jerry Jones would begin blowing their horns then maybe something would be done about this traffic mess.

One of the differences between liberals and conservatives is this: liberals think all money is the government's, and that your earnings are just an “allowance.” Conservatives understand that the money you earn is yours and that the Government gets an allowance from you.

To the lady in El Toreo Tuesday night. Your child was obnoxious. I hope you enjoyed your two magaritas and text fest while your child disrupted the entire restaurant and hit me in the back of the head repeatedly.

The high amount of red lights in Valdosta is due to the poor quality of drivers in Valdosta. Having to put a red light on Gornto for people to turn out off old Wood Valley is proof.

To the war on Christmas

person who complained about the Seasons Greetings sign at Five Points. That sign has gone up EVERY Christmas for at least the past 30 years. I remember passing it on the way to elementary school. You must be new in this town!

Congratulations to Monte Copeland for not giving up on graduating. I am proud of you.

To the mail driver on Boone Drive: you are tearing up the road by our mail boxes. Please do not pull so close.

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
