Rant & Rave for Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012

-- — Thank you, thank you, thank you, to the Lake Park Elementary teachers and all those that worked diligently to prepare the fifth graders for their Christmas performance. What a spectacular show. I’m so proud of my daughter, and all the other students and teachers that did such a fantastic job!

Santa is of Nordic origin, therefore the light skin, light hair and eyes. He came to the U.S. by European settlers. Not all things are racist nor should be taken that way. After all Christ is the reason for Christmas, not a bearded, long-haired, overweight man that has elves and rides a sleigh pulled with flying reindeer! If you want racist, side with the elves!

I think if I send my child to a private school she shouldn’t have to eat her lunch with the lights turned off every day, because the staff lady thinks it’s too loud. Hello, it’s a lunchroom not a funeral home or a nursing home. With the lights out, how could you see a child choking?

I called and got good info on garbage pickup from county finance and Veolia.

I walked around Schoolhouse Pond the other day and the empty lots have already started to fill up with garbage bags and old furniture from sorry people that won’t pay to have their garbage picked up. Believe me, commissioners, this will get a lot worse and be like it was when I was a kid. Garbage at the end of every wooded lane in the county!

The one who said, “isn’t it interesting Lincoln was a Republican,” may want to check historical facts as to how the Democrats and Republicans were complete opposites at that time in history as to how the parties differ today. Sad how many will take anything they can to try and state something to make their side look good. The Republican Party of today is by no means the “party of Lincoln.” It’s indisputable fact. What movie were you watching?

Thank you to Mary Corbitt, 4 West manager, for her kindness, thoughtfulness and being a leader that we are proud to work with and for. ... We love her!

Our children have fire/tornado drills regularly at school, but do they have practice drills for a situation similar to Connecticut? If not, then this should be implemented immediately.

Lincoln was a Republican in the 1860s but would almost without doubt be a Democrat today.

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
