Rant & Raves for Friday, February 1, 2013

VALDOSTA — The recent run on ammunition has the manufacturers holding back on production intentionally! Supply and demand will drive prices up. More money! More money!

How can anyone say President Obama doesn’t understand the Constitution or knows nothing about the Second Amendment when he holds a degree from Harvard and was president of the Harvard Law Review? Maybe it’s you who doesn’t understand?

Explain why Republicans are recently so intrigued with voter fraud? Maybe they see their majority slipping away with the changing demographic. But don’t worry, the way Georgia districts are conveniently divided, this state will stay red for quite sometime.

Don’t get a dog if you can’t commit to them for life. They have hearts and become attached, then you get rid of them when you no longer want them. If you must give them away, please make sure as possible they are going to a good home. The best thing to do is charge a roaming fee to assure that more.

I want to thank the two men who work for SGB who turned around to help me with my blow out on I-75. So nice to know people do actually care. Thanks again.

A big rave for our freedom to choose among various garbage collection companies, or to litter illegally without any fear of getting caught. Adding an endless rave in advance for VDT, if they post the names and the fines of those littering our community during the endless “shaking out” of our garbage collection service.

I think Westside Elementary and the Lowndes County School System needs to modify the school zone flashing light. Having the reduced speed for such a long time is ridiculous! It flashes from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., when children can’t arrive to school until 7:30 and classes begin at 8. Same thing in the afternoon. Please take a look at this!

Rave to Dr. Ferrell  and his staff at the dentist office. I had a crown recently reattached. They really care about people and it shows. They are great!

Please clarify this for me, can we or can we not use a different disposal company besides Advanced Disposal in Lowndes County?

I don’t understand all of this craziness about wanting to stockpile guns! I mean let’s face it, you don’t go hunting with a machine gun and you only have two hands so what is all the fuss about? If the government decided you should only own two vehicles due to air pollution, would you go out and buy a car lot?

How long is it going to take AT&T telephone and/or Mediacom cable to do something about the vines and bushes  growing over the cable lines at Mt. Zion Church  Road  and Academy Acres. The lines are  pulled down where a 6 foot person can touch them. We won’t have any cable service or phone service if something is not done about this pretty soon.

Alright Sister's Pizza, how am I supposed to cheat on my diet if you stay closed! The other pizza places are too far from downtown for my lunch hour and are a bit too greasy.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!
