Rant & Rave for Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012

-- — The city needs to check those Christmas decorations at Five Points. The lights don’t all work. They run out of SPLOST money for that, too.

I would like to send a rave out to Mrs. Robin McCauley at the Baytree Branch Bank of Ozarks. She was very patient and sweet while helping me set up my accounts. Thanks again!

A big rave to all of the restaurants in town  who were open during Thanksgiving for the families to celebrate together and those who can’t cook their own food. Thanks for giving the opportunities to families to get together and be together during the holiday. This is what the holidays are all about.

Please keep the recycling centers open. I will be willing to pay more.

As a Democrat, I want to give credit to Saxby Chambliss who is a Republican who is putting the American people ahead of a pledge that has tied his hands to make his own decisions. He is a new leader of the GOP.

I saw many going to the food bank this past Thanksgiving in Lexuses, Escalades, Nissan SUVs, etc. The food bank is supposed to be for the poor and hungry. There were fat people there also. They didn’t look hungry to me.

I don’t find it “upsetting” that people put up their Christmas lights early. We’re going to have our Thanksgiving dinner and look at our neighbors’ Christmas lights. They’re pretty!

I would like to suggest that the people who don’t want to see Christmas lights yet take a trip to Mount Crumpet and visit the Grinch for a while instead of pestering the happy folk here in Whoville!

To the person that said they voted against SPLOST because “only the rich people would benefit from the projects,” please tell me about all those fat cats and “Daddy” Warbuckses that frequent the Valdosta library, I’m all ears.

While it is generally early for the Christmas decorations, there may be a reason. Maybe there is a parent deploying over Christmas and they are celebrating early. Maybe there is a terminal illness and the person may not live until the holiday. If it really bothers you, don’t pay any attention ... just sayin’.

Want better traffic flow in Valdosta? When you are making a left turn, don’t sit behind the crosswalk line. Move into the intersection and wait for your opening. It is legal, safer and keeps traffic moving.

I am thankful I chose to stick with Deep South Sanitation. Our trash is always picked up right on time and he never leaves anything behind. After all my neighbors' trash is "picked up," often items are strewn by the road and the cans are either left in the road or fallen in or beside the road. Get rid of the big company and move to Deep South, if you want true customer service!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.
