Rant and Raves for Wednesday, December 5, 2012

VALDOSTA — I had to wait almost 30 minutes for the ambulance to come to my house in Lake Park from Hahira the other day. What a shame SGMC.

Where are the Valdosta police from 7:15-7:45 a.m. Monday through Friday at Madison Highway and Copeland Road? The sign, next to the stop sign on Copeland Road, clearly shows you can NOT turn left. Yet, traffic backs up for all those cars and school buses that make the illegal turn.

Maybe, if the lady would stop tithing, she would have had the money to buy her own fruit cake mix. Of course, if everyone did that, the professional clergy would have to get jobs and support themselves like all the Sunday School teachers that minister the word week after week for free.

The people of Lowndes County voted NO for the SPLOST fund tax. Most of this money would have come from out-of- town shoppers.

In Lake Park, there is a constant low-pitch roaring sound, 24/7. Is it from the paper mill?

To the men in trucks that blind me because you have modified your truck, I just leave my brights on when I see you coming!

Perhaps, the graduate student was thanking President Obama for making it possible for his parents’ policy to cover him til age 26. Maybe, his parents are paying for his health insurance, and not YOU.

Congrats Valwood and VSU!

Glad to see the Girl Scouts in the parade this year! I loved the float and the girls were beautiful. I heard a woman on the float tell a little girl to look at me and tell me Merry Christmas. Thank you. And Merry Christmas to you little angels.

I think anyone that blames the President, Republican or Democrat for gas prices is a dummy. Fuel prices are a result of supply and demand, international events, our willingness to cut back, price manipulation, etc.

I noticed a clerical error on the Times webpage. It has rant/rave listed as “news” instead of in the entertainment section.

Let’s make everyone happy. Let’s bring back President Dwight Eisenhower. We will make those that sob “I just want things like they used to be” happy. We will help the unemployed and we might even build a new interstate highway system or rail system. Dwight Eisenhower-Top tax bracket 90 percent-unemployment rate 5.5.

A big rave to the choir and leaders at First United Methodist. You bless us!

Over 150 applicants applied for the handful of teaching jobs in Lowndes County. Plus, almost every single paraprofessional is a certified teacher who has been waiting patiently, “doing their time.” And, Lake Park Elementary hires a teacher who has quit, not once, but twice before. The "good ole' boy" network at its finest.

Have we progressed to the point where we are arguing about gay marriage? I thought the South was still outraged about blacks being able to marry whites! Hmm...We will catch up to the rest of the world eventually.

I found the cartoon referencing Tim Tebow's Christianity on Thursday's editorial page very offensive. I can agree that many people are out for what God can do for them, not how they can serve God, But I do not see any evidence of that attitude or life style in Tim Tebow's life. Time will tell.

Good riddance to the doctor unable to take Medicaid patients?! Do you work for free? I bet you go to work and expect a paycheck. Why would the doctor be any different? Blame our fearless leaders, not the doctors. And you are WAY out of line questioning whether that person is Christian or not. Sounds like the person who thinks preachers should work for free.

Amazing: Even a judgmental person like yourself can’t even bother to get the facts straight before you criticize something. Jason Collins did an extremely brave thing by coming out in a world filled with people such as yourself. Words of Wisdom: Leave the judging to God.

Raves to Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Sylvia at Cook Primary! They have the best behaved class and are the best teachers in that school!

To all who use Coleman Road as a short cut between Old Highway 41 North and North Valdosta Road, please remember the speed limit is 35, not 65. Tailgating me isn’t going to make me go faster. Remember, it’s our neighborhoods, not your short cut!

I hope Al Sharpton finds time to visit the mother in Brunswick whose baby was shot point blank in the forehead while in his baby stroller. Perhaps the reverend could also counsel the angry young black man who pulled the trigger. Oh wait, the baby was white. Never mind.

I thought that all schools had dress codes that the teachers and substitutes had to follow? When I walk into the school it looks like they are headed to the pool instead of the classroom. Tank tops and skimpy skirts are not allowed. Come on, administration, make them follow the rules. Thank you, to the teachers and staff that do adhere to the dress code.

Property tax should be based on value. School taxes should be separate and assessed to each household equally, no exemptions. The rich, middle and poor should pay equally for children's public education.
