VALDOSTA —
Sigma Tau Delta presented the Children's Advocacy Center with a check in the amount of $304 on Thursday, February 7. Last semester, Sigma Tau Delta's volunteer project was to raise money for Valdosta's Children's Advocacy Center.
Sigma Tau Delta is an English Honor Society whose members are devoted to high academic achievement in all subjects, especially literature, language and writing. Members must maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0 and must have completed the course titled Intro to Literature. In addition to maintaining high standards of educational excellence, members are devoted to serving the community.
“Throughout the month of November, we sold Chick-Fil-A calendars and raised just over $300 to give to the Children's Advocacy Center,” said Laura Hanna, president of Sigma Tau Delta. “Not only was this a fun project, but it was also a great way for us to get the word out about the good work that the Children's Advocacy Center does for children in need.”
As an honor society that always looks for opportunities to help foster literacy, Sigma Tau Delta collects books year around for the World Wide Book Drive, which is an organization that donates books to underprivileged children all over the world.
Sigma Tau Delta faculty sponsors include Dr. Marty Williams and Dr. Hugh O'Connell.
