VALDOSTA —
It is a Friday of limited action, as just four of the schools in The Valdosta Daily Times’ coverage area are in action. Lowndes, Valdosta and Berrien are all home, while Brooks County returns to action after having last week off. The Trojans are at Mitchell County.
Hardaway Hawks (2-1) at Lowndes Vikings (3-0)
Hardaway and Lowndes meet for the first time since 1989 Friday night, when the surprising 2-1 Hawks visit Martin Stadium. After finishing 1-9 last season, Hardaway raced out to a 2-0 start, with wins over Jordan (0-3) and Columbus (0-2). Hardaway lost to Shaw 27-6 last week. Lowndes is looking for its first 4-0 start since 2009, when the Vikings started the year 5-0 before losing to Northside (Warner Robins). Friday’s game will be Homecoming for Lowndes.
Newton Rams (0-2) at Valdosta Wildcats (2-1)
After its 31-0 loss to Lowndes, Newton was off last week. After two shut out losses to start the year, the Rams are looking for their first points of the year against Valdosta, which bounced back from its loss to Brooks County with a 45-0 win over Crisp County. Friday’s meeting will be the first between the two schools. Valdosta opens region play Sept. 28 against Camden County. Friday’s game will serve as Homecoming for Valdosta High.
Brooks County Trojans (3-0) at Mitchell County Eagles (1-2)
After upsetting Valdosta, 28-24, two weeks ago, the Trojans were idle last week. Friday night, the Trojans return to action with a visit to Mitchell County. The Eagles are 1-2 this season after a loss to Clinch County and Albany. Mitchell County’s win this season came in 13-0 fashion against Pelham. Friday’s meeting will be the first between the two schools since 2009, when the Trojans earned a 42-0 win. Brooks County owns a three-game winning streak against Mitchell County.
Turner County Rebels (2-1) at Berrien Rebels (2-1)
Winners of their last two games, the Berrien Rebels look for their first three-game winning streak since 2009 when they host the Turner County Rebels Friday night at Raymond Jones Stadium. After allowing 36 points in their season opening loss to Calhoun County, the Rebels have allowed just 12 combined points the previous two weeks. Turner County enters Friday’s game with a 2-1 record after wins against Crisp County and Calhoun County and a two-point loss to Seminole County.
