VALDOSTA —
Valdosta State fans will have an opportunity to meet student-athletes from three VSU teams this weekend, when VSU hosts its annual Meet the Blazers event for the football, soccer and volleyball teams.
The Blazers’ volleyball and soccer teams will host Meet the Blazers from 6-7 p.m. today at the VSU Athletic Fieldhouse, which is located on Mary Street, next to the Blazers’ soccer field. The Valdosta State football team, along with VSU’s cheer and dance squads, will host Meet the Blazers at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
Both events will have free admission, T-shirts and food for participants. Children will get a chance to run through regular drills with players and coaches from each team. At the football Meet the Blazers, participants will get an opportunity to see the VSU football team’s locker room and run through the tunnel onto the field with the team. There will also be an autograph session at both events. Fans will have an opportunity to get posters and pictures signed by the Valdosta State teams before receiving free snacks at the volleyball and soccer event and a free hot dog and drink at the football event.
All children from kindergarten through eighth grade are welcome to participate in the events. Participants must register for the events. A registration form can be downloaded on the Valdosta State athletic website, www.vstateblazers.com. Registration for the Friday night event begins at 5 p.m., while registration for the football team’s event begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
There will also be a football scrimmage at the team’s practice fields that will start at 7 p.m. Friday. Once the parking lot at the VSU Athletic Fieldhouse fills up, fans are welcome to park at the Sustella Parking Deck starting at 5:15 p.m. Valdosta State will run a shuttle back and forth from the parking deck to the fieldhouse until 6:15 p.m. The shuttle will resume at 7 p.m. to return fans to their vehicles.

VSU softball wins South Region, headed to nationals
For the third time in four years, and second in a row, Valdosta State’s softball team will play in the national championship tournament.
