ADEL — The Cook High Hornets’ baseball team won the decisive game 3 over Toombs County on Thursday afternoon to advance to the state AA quarterfinals.
The Hornets won game 3, 9-6, behind starting pitcher Josh Barks who struck out eight and hit a two-run homer.
Parker Nix went 2-for-4 with a RBI, Wes Warren went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Tyler Norton went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
The Hornets had to come from behind in the series. They dropped game 1, 12-0, with ace Kaleb Cowart on the mound. Cowart and D.J. Johnson were the only Cook players to notch hits.
In game 2, the Hornets saved their season with an 11-1 win. Johnson struck out 13 batters while scattering seven hits. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two singles and three RBIs.
Cowart went 3-for-3 with two homers in game 2. Barks and Warren both went 2-for-3.
The Hornets will play Blessed Trinity in the next round of the playoffs.

The Blazers were held in check for much of the night, despite being aided by nine Golden Ram walks. With runners on base, the Blazers were unable to produce enough offense to score runs, leaving 12 runners stranded in the game. -

Valdosta’s boys basketball team came alive in the fourth quarter, and rallied for a 50-40 victory over Brooks County on Wednesday night.
The Wildcats outscored Brooks 24-9 in the fourth quarter, and turned a five-point deficit into a 10-point win. -
