VALDOSTA —
Members of the Valdosta State football team visited the Crossroads Baptist School on Friday morning.
Members of the team, and select coaches, were hosted by the school’s Rota-cadets, students focused on community service outreach projects, and were honored for their victory in the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championship Game.
The VSU players read to younger students, played football with the fourth and fifth graders — VSU finished 0 for 2 in the two games — ate snacks, signed autographs and posed for pictures.
At the end of the appearance, teacher Lindsey White, the Rota-cadets sponsor, presented offensive line coach Andy Richman with a certificate of appreciation, declaring the day Blazer Day at Crossroads Baptist School.
The appearance at an elementary school was the Blazers’ second in less than two months. Just two days before playing in the national championship game, the Blazers read to students at two elementary schools in the Florence, Ala. area.
The Blazers beat Winston-Salem State 35-7 in the championship game, earning the school’s third football championship since 2004.
