VALDOSTA —
The Valdosta Community Tennis Association awarded the first-annual Tennis Valdosta Junior Player Scholarship to Dylan Farmer.
Farmer, son of Ann and Jim Farmer, is the first recipient of the Tennis Valdosta Junior Player Scholarship.
He was awarded a $500.00 check to apply towards tuition at the Florida State University Seminole Performance Tennis Camp.
An upcoming sophomore at Lowndes High School, Farmer played number three singles for the Vikings, under the direction of head coach Heath Phelps, this spring.
An active member in the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority tennis program at McKey Park, Farmer has been under the direction of Keith Childree, and has been regularly competing in leagues and tournaments.
Farmer invests a minimum of eight hours per week on the court through clinics, private instruction, tennis conditioning and organized match play.
Farmer and his USTA Junior Team Tennis team will be representing Valdosta in Macon on July 27-29, in the Junior Team Tennis State Championship.
“Dylan is one of the hardest working kids I have ever had the privilege of teaching,” said Keith Childree, VLPRA Tennis Pro.
“He is a joy to be around and I am honored that I have been giving the opportunity to teach such a well-mannered, talented young man.”
The Tennis Valdosta Junior Player Scholarship will be awarded annually to a junior who has demonstrated achievements in leadership, displayed sportsmanship on and off the court and participated extensively in organized community tennis programs.
