VALDOSTA —
The 2012 Lowndes Vikings football schedule is complete.
Much like 2010 and 2011, the schedule, which was released on Tuesday night, features seven home games.
Following a preseason scrimmage against Thomasvile High School on Aug. 17, Lowndes will enjoy a bye week Aug. 24.
The Vikings begin regular season play Aug. 31, when Luella visits Martin Stadium. Lowndes’ meeting with the Lions will mark the first of four non-region games to start the season.
Of the four non-region games, only Windsor Forest, who Lowndes will host Sept. 14, made the playoffs in 2011. Following their meeting with Luella, Lowndes welcomes Newton to Martin Stadium on Sept. 7. Hardaway, who finished the 2011 season with a 1-9 record, will visit Lowndes Sept. 1.
Lowndes will take to the road for the first time in 2012 when they pay a visit to Colquitt County in the first region game of the season. Last season, the Packers blew out Lowndes 34-7 when the Vikings visited Mack Tharpe Stadium.
Following their visit to Moultrie, the Vikings return home to face one of the newest members of Region 1, as Brunswick will visit Martin Stadium.
Lowndes’ annual game against Valdosta will come Oct. 12, when the Vikings visit Bazmore-Hyder Stadium. Lowndes will travel to Tifton to face Tift County on Oct. 26 before wrapping up the season on Nov. 2 with a visit from Camden County.
Due to scheduling conflicts, Lowndes will not face Ware County for the first time since 1993.
Head coach Randy McPherson was unavailable for comment Wednesday. He is scheduled to meet with the Daily Times today.
