VSU softball regional final set for 10:30 a.m. start

VALDOSTA — The South Region I Tournament championship game between the top-ranked Valdosta State softball team and Rollins College is set to restart at 10:30 a.m. this morning, after severe weather delayed the game Sunday afternoon.

All tickets from Sunday will be accepted today, according to the VSU Athletic Department and the NCAA.

The delay came at 1:28 eastern time, just prior to the start of the third inning. Originally, the game was placed on a 30-minute lightning delay, which turned into over an hour delay. After 1 hour and 20 minutes, the rain tarp was finally placed over the field to keep the infield dry from the falling rain. Soon after, the game was postponed indefinitely.

Following the suspension of play, both teams were cleared from the park.

Attempts to restart the game were made for Sunday night, but field conditions were unplayable and the game was moved to this morning.

After two innings, the game remains scoreless. The Blazers, who are serving as the visiting team after losing a coin toss Saturday night, are currently hitless, going in 1-2-3 fashion in each of the first two innings.

Rollins is scoreless despite recording three hits through the first two innings, and loading the bases in the bottom of the first.
