VALDOSTA —
The wrestling teams at Camden County and Lowndes will compete in the State Championship Dual Wrestling Tournament this weekend after finishing first and second, respectively, at the Region 1-AAAAAA Dual Tournament at Lowndes.
Camden County is the defending State Dual Championship, while Lowndes is looking to build on its fifth place finish from a year ago. The Wildcats will face Chattahoochee in the first round, while Lowndes will face Archer.
The tournament is scheduled to begin Thursday and conclude Saturday at the Macon Centreplex.
At last weekend’s region dual meet, Camden County beat Valdosta 72-0 in the first round, while Lowndes defeated Tift County 20-0. Brunswick beat Colquitt County 51-23, advancing all three teams to the semifinals, where Coffee waited.
Camden County then defeated Coffee 67-3, while Lowndes beat Brunswick 39-26.
In the championship match, Camden County defeated Lowndes 54-12 to win the region.
In the second place match, the Vikings defeated Coffee 52-18, after the Trojans beat Tift County and Brunswick to advance to the match.
If Camden County is victorious against Chattahoochee in the first round, it will face either Douglas County or Brookwood in the second round.
Lowndes will face either Kennesaw Mountain or North Gwinnett.
Tickets for this weekend’s event are $7 for Thursday and $10 for Friday and Saturday. Total tournament tickets are available for $24.
