VSU baseball, softball host Blazer Blast

VALDOSTA — The baseball and softball teams at Valdosta State University hosted the annual Blazer Blast event Sunday at Billy Grant Field and the VSU Softball Complex.

Area youth were given the opportunity to participate in various drills coached by members of both squads and were given the opportunity to receive autographs throughout the event.

Drills included hitting and throwing techniques and base running and sliding drills.

The VSU baseball team opens its season Friday when it hosts Palm Beach Atlantic at 2 p.m. The softball team, the reigning 2012 Division II national champion, will open its season Saturday.  

The Blazers will face the Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders in Pensacola, Fla. The Blazers open their home schedule Feb. 12 against Georgia Southwestern.

    He went to the bench, and they chanted his name.
    The sights and sounds of so many San Antonio spring nights were back Sunday night — and the real party might be just a few days away.
    Ginobili broke out of a slump in a big way with 24 points and 10 assists in his first start of the season, and the Spurs beat the Miami Heat 114-104 to take a 3-2 lead in the NBA Finals.
