VALDOSTA —
While Josh Harvey-Clemons stole most of the headlines on National Signing Day, several other Lowndes Vikings signed national letters of intent on Wednesday.
Defensive end James Mathis was the only other Division I signee, committing to Florida Atlantic over Troy. Mathis was third on the team in tackles in 2011 with 63 1/2. He led the team with seven sacks and eight tackles for a loss. He was an All-State defensive lineman in 2010.
“I felt more comfortable (at Florida Atlantic) and I liked the coaching staff,” Mathis said. “I felt like I had a better chance of playing.”
Defensive end Matt Frazier signed his way to play at Georgia Military College, with the possibility of transferring to the University of Georgia after two seasons.
Running back Mike Moore, who led Lowndes with 1,047 yards rushing in 2011, signed with Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, and long snapper Jayson Crum decided to stay locally, signing with Valdosta State.
“I wanted to join VSU because it has always been a good school,” Crum said. “It is just extra motivation to go out there because they have national championships already.”

Fans welcome home champion Blazers
