VALDOSTA —
The first of two softball summers camps hosted by the Division II national champion Valdosta State softball team and Coach of the Year Thomas Macera will be held Monday-Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the VSU Softball Complex. The cost is $100 per camper.
The camp is the first of two hosted by Macera and his Coaching Staff of the Year. The second camp will be held July 9-11.
The camps will feature quality instruction from Macera, other members of the VSU coaching staff as well as VSU softball players that helped the Blazers win the school’s first-ever softball national championship and the first women’s national championship in school history.
Campers will learn timeless techniques of the modern day hitter, from the correct grip and set-up to the proper bat path and explosive lower half mechanics. Campers will also learn proper fundamentals for throwing and taking ground balls and fly balls as well as proper pitching techniques.
In addition to those set camps, Macera and staff will also offer weekly clinics throughout the summer.
Every Monday from 4-5 p.m. will be infield clinics, while every Wednesday at the same time will be outfield clinics. Each session costs $30.

VSU softball wins South Region, headed to nationals
For the third time in four years, and second in a row, Valdosta State’s softball team will play in the national championship tournament.
The Blazers won their third South Region championship Saturday, beating Alabama-Huntsville 8-3 in game three of the best-of-three series at Steel’s Diamond at Blazer Park. -

Blazers lose to Delta State, fall to loser’s bracket
If the Valdosta State baseball team is going to win the South Region Tournament, the Blazers going to have to do it from the loser’s bracket.
The Blazers (33-17) dropped their first game of the tournament Thursday, falling to Delta State 4-2 at UT Baseball Stadium.
VSU will face Stillman College, which lost to No. 1 seed and tournament host Tampa Thursday, Friday at 11 a.m. to advance to the weekend portion of the tournament. The loser will be eliminated. -

The All-Region 1-AAAAAA soccer teams were announced Wednesday and Lowndes was well represented.
Lowndes coaches Chris Willis (girls) and Jordan Breit (boys) were named the Region Coaches of the Year, after leading the Lowndes teams to region championships and going undefeated in region play. -
