Camden County dominates All-Region 1-AAAAAA team

VALDOSTA — In its first season as a member of Region 1-AAAAAA, Camden County dominated the All-Region teams, released on Tuesday.

The Wildcats swept the region’s Players of the Year honors, along with Coach of the Year honor following their region championship this season.

Camden County’s J.J Green, who is committed to the University of Georgia, was named the region’s Player of the Year, along with Special Teams Player of the Year, while quarterback Brice Ramsey, also committed to UGA, was named the Offensive Player of the Year.

 Jarred Davis, an Auburn commitment, was named the region’s Defensive Player of the Year, while Camden County head coach Jeff Herron was named the Coach of the Year.

Altogether, Camden County and Lowndes placed 10 players on the All-Region teams, while Valdosta placed nine.

Colquitt County, the fourth-seed from Region 1 that has advanced to the state semifinals and will face Norcross Friday night, placed eight players on the team. Coffee placed six.

On the First-Team, Lowndes’ Nick Burgman and Valdosta’s Malcolm Joseph were named the running backs.

In 10 games this season, Burgman led the Vikings with 807 yards rushing on 100 carries with nine touchdowns, along with leading the team with 10 receptions for 188 yards with two scores.

Joseph finished the year with 832 yards with 14 touchdowns and 29 catches for 241 yards with a score to lead the Wildcats to a 7-4 record and a first round playoff appearance.

Also on the First Team was Lowndes lineman Tyler Aultman, and kicker Gustavo Gonzales, who booted the game-winning kick for the Vikings over crosstown rival Valdosta, along with Valdosta punter Mac Loudermilk.

Valdosta’s Chuntony Johnson was named First Team defense, after recording 58 tackles, including 22 for a loss, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries this season for the Wildcats.

Johnson was joined on the First Team by Lowndes’ Tre Jackson (team-high 45 tackles, 3 1/2 for loss, two interceptions, two fumbles recovered) and safety Tiquan Lang, who finished with 32 tackles, a team-high four interceptions and one fumble force and recovery this year.

On the Second Team were Valdosta’s Nelson Herring, Sherrod Inman, Dyshon Sims, Jamal Hunter, Darius Sapp and Eli Thomas were all honored, along with Lowndes’ Brandon Roberts, Eric Hart, Sam Washington and Larry Scarborough.

Several players earned honorable mention. Those players were: Shelby Wilkes, Valdosta; Ronnie Stoney, Valdosta; Quincy Jones, Valdosta; Anfernee Chandler, Lowndes; Mac Loudermilk, Valdosta; Anthony Smith, Valdosta; Brian Bell, Lowndes; Ellis Griffin, Lowndes.

    If the Valdosta State baseball team is going to win the South Region Tournament, the Blazers going to have to do it from the loser’s bracket.
    The Blazers (33-17) dropped their first game of the tournament Thursday, falling to Delta State 4-2 at UT Baseball Stadium.
    VSU will face Stillman College, which lost to No. 1 seed and tournament host Tampa Thursday, Friday at 11 a.m. to advance to the weekend portion of the tournament. The loser will be eliminated.

     The All-Region 1-AAAAAA soccer teams were announced Wednesday and Lowndes was well represented.
    Lowndes coaches Chris Willis (girls) and Jordan Breit (boys) were named the Region Coaches of the Year, after leading the Lowndes teams to region championships and going undefeated in region play.

    On Wednesday, Lowndes’ baseball team made too many mistakes on the little things. The Vikings committed four errors that led to five Roswell runs and were eliminated in the Class AAAAAA state playoffs with a 5-2 loss to the Hornets.
