The Boys and Girls Club’s TitleTown All-Stars travel to Conyers this weekend to play in the National Prepatory Football Association’s Southern National Championships series.
The 9- and 10-year-old players were selected from the best among the Boys and Girls Club’s Valdosta football teams, says Shawn Martin, an All-Stars assistant coach.
Led by head coach Jarrid Brown, the All-Stars began practicing Tuesday and Thursday evenings in early November and have won three games to earn a spot in this weekend’s championship series. Already, the team has traveled and won in competitions such as the Turkey Bowl in Tifton, the Timber Bowl in Patterson, and the Citizens Bowl in Ocilla.
This weekend, the TitleTown All-Stars will leave Valdosta at 8 a.m. Saturday. The team plays its first game at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in Conyers. Win or lose, the TitleTown All-Stars play a second game at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.
If successful this weekend, winning both games, the Valdosta team has the opportunity to play on Dec. 22 to Atlanta where they would compete in the Georgia Dome for the state championship, Martin says.
“The players, coaches and parents are very excited about a chance to be the first team ever from Valdosta to compete in this tournament,” Martin says. “The kids are very excited.”
