Georgia Christian’s varsity basketball teams split their season openers against Citizens Christian Academy on Tuesday at Elrod Gymnasium.
Georgia Christian’s boys defeated CCA 64-48. C.J. Lynch led the Generals with 18 points. Zac Bunion scored 15 points, Christian Wisenbaker had 14 points and Jeremiah Beverly added 13 points. Devin Paulk led CCA with 13 points, while O.J. Simpson added 12.
Georgia Christian’s girls fell 57-53 in overtime to CCA. Haley Garrett scored 23 points for the Lady Generals. Morgan Sykes and Lauren Redshaw each had 10 points. Jacey Pruitt led CCA with 17 points.
The Georgia Christian junior varsity boys hammered CCA’s JV 54-11. Colson Guthrie led the Generals with 15 points, while Alex King and Matthew Okolichany added eight points apiece.
Georgia Christian travels to Open Bible on Monday.

Blazers fall to Molloy in eight innings
With only one out remaining and trailing by three, the Molloy Lions strung together four hits to plate three runs in the seventh followed by another run in the eighth inning to defeat Valdosta State’s softball team 5-4 in the first round of the 2013 Division II Softball National Championship Tournament on Thursday in Salem, Va.

The Valdosta State softball team made the long journey to Salem, Va. Tuesday, leaving Valdosta at 10:30 a.m. with devoted fans cheering them out of the parking lot.
