Classic winner List to make PGA TOUR debut

VALDOSTA — Last year’s South Georgia Classic winner, 27-year-old Luke List, will make his PGA TOUR debut this weekend in Hawaii.

List will participate in the TOUR’s Sony Open at the Waialae Country Club after he earned his 2013 TOUR card following the 2012 Web.com Tour season, where he finished fourth on the Tour’s money list.

List was one of 25 Web.com players, previously known as the Nationwide Tour, that were awarded their TOUR cards for this2013 season.

List won the 2012 South Georgia Classic presented by First State Bank and Trust Company by two strokes over Brian Stuard, who finished 20th on the money list and also earned his PGA TOUR card.

In the Classic, which is held at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, List tied 2011 champion Ted Potter Jr for the lowest score in the tournament’s history — 16-under par. The win was List’s first and only win of his career.

The win in Valdosta earned him $112,000.

“It feels fantastic,” said List following the tournament. “It is hard to describe. People always say ‘it really hasn’t sank in yet,’ and I think that is the case. I really put my head down, especially on the weekend, and I knew kind of where I was all day, and it was nice to be able to perform under the pressure.”

Among the other 24 players that earned their TOUR card were Casey Wittenberg — who recorded two wins in 2012 and was the top finisher on the Web.com, Tour’s money list — Georgia graduates Russell Henley and Justin Bolli and Georgia Tech graduates Paul Haley II and Nicholas Thompson.

The 2013 South Georgia Classic will be held April 23-28 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
