VALDOSTA —  

Lowndes JV blanks Valdosta, 35-0

VALDOSTA — The Lowndes junior varsity football team shut out crosstown rival Valdosta, 35-0, Thursday night at Martin Stadium.

Sophomore Ahman Brown led the way with three rushing touchdowns, all of which came in the first half.

Chris Trower added a 9-yard touchdown run on the night.

Garrett Lovell scored the game’s only defensive touchdown, intercepting a Valdosta pass and returning it 35 yards for a Viking touchdown.

Nick Hart kicked four of Lowndes’ extra points, and Sean Smith added another.

Lowndes (3-0) visits Tift County next Thursday for a 6 p.m. kickoff from Brodie Field in Tifton.



Lowndes freshmen edge Valdosta

VALDOSTA — Lowndes’ defense stopped a two-point conversion play with 18 seconds left in the game, and held on to beat Valdosta 21-20 on Thursday at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

Lowndes built an early 14-0 lead, but Valdosta rallied late to cut the Vikings’ lead to one, before the LHS defense stopped the deciding two-point conversion play.

Taylor Milbradt caught two touchdown passes and also caught a two-point conversion pass. Tim Griffin scored on a 10-yard run.

Valdosta will host Colquitt County next Thursday.



Valdosta Middle beats Colquitt

VALDOSTA — Valdosta Middle School’s eighth grade football team defeated Colquitt County’s Black team 32-26 on Thursday.

Quanteiz Robinson scored three touchdowns for the Tomcats, on runs of 1, 57 and 4 yards. Tevin Gray scored on a 9-yard run. Luke Ard threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Halford. Mariano Arceo kicked two extra points.

Valdosta Middle (1-0) travels to Moultrie to play Colquitt’s Gold team next Thursday.



Pine Grove blanks Colquitt

VALDOSTA — Pine Grove Middle School’s eighth grade football team shut out Colquitt County’s Gold team 14-0 on Thursday.

Nick Grantham scored on a 70-yard run for the Vikings in the second quarter, and Tai Hatcher ran in the two-point conversion. Late in the third quarter, Hatcher scored on a 1-yard run.

Late in the game, Tavist Jones intercepted a pass at the Vikings’ 10-yard line to all but seal the win.

Grantham had eight tackles and Hatcher had seven for Pine Grove (1-0), which hosts Hahira next Thursday.



Valwood defeats Crisp Academy

VALDOSTA — The Valwood middle school football team defeated Crisp Academy 31-0 at Goddard Field on Thursday.

Sam Martin scored four touchdowns for the Valiants, two on punt returns of 79 and 41 yards and two on runs of 65 and 34 yards.

Valwood’s Ben Crump caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from William Clifton.



Open Bible soccer team ties Covenant

VALDOSTA — Open Bible’s soccer team tied Covenant Christian 3-3.

The Warriors went ahead early with a goal in the 18th minute, when Elijah Byrd scored on a pass from Fernando Gomez-Prince.  

Sean Harrell scored for the Warriors in the 22nd minute, with an assist from Colton Jenkins. The Warriors scored again in the 25th minute on a goal by Colton Jenkins, and went into halftime with a 3-1 lead.

The Rams scored two goals in the second half and tied the score 3-3.

David Brandon had 12 saves for the Warriors. Open Bible is now 3-1-1 on the season.

The Warriors host Killian today at 4 p.m.

    That wasn’t the case in the Late Model division, as Valdosta's Gene Ross drove to victory once again, but not without some close competition from Steven Roberts who came in second.
    In the Limited Late Model class, it was another win for Cole Exum, with Gene Maine finishing second in the NAPA Auto Parts special.

    For the third time in four years, and second in a row, Valdosta State’s softball team will play in the national championship tournament.
    The Blazers won their third South Region championship Saturday, beating Alabama-Huntsville 8-3 in game three of the best-of-three series at Steel’s Diamond at Blazer Park.

    If the Valdosta State baseball team is going to win the South Region Tournament, the Blazers going to have to do it from the loser’s bracket.
    The Blazers (33-17) dropped their first game of the tournament Thursday, falling to Delta State 4-2 at UT Baseball Stadium.
    VSU will face Stillman College, which lost to No. 1 seed and tournament host Tampa Thursday, Friday at 11 a.m. to advance to the weekend portion of the tournament. The loser will be eliminated.
