VALDOSTA —
The All-Region 1-AAAAA teams were announced on Tuesday, and a bunch of local players filled the teams.
Colquitt County shortstop Matt Creech was named the region’s Player of the Year, after helping the Packers win the region championship. Colquitt County head coach Tony Kirkland was named the Coach of the Year.
Lowndes had four players on the first team: Lance Jarriel (outfield), Seth Evans (designated player), Luke Miller (outfield) and Dylan Roberts (pitcher). Colquitt County also placed four on the first team, while Tift County placed three and Coffee had one. Valdosta was the only team with no players represented on the first team.
Valdosta’s Brogen Berard (infield), Trey Haygood (outfield/pitcher), Bradley Felkel (infield) and David Posas (infield) were all named to the second team, while Lowndes’ Parker Armstrong (infield), Ty Harwell (outfield) and Mason Brooks (infield) were also named to the team.
Creech was joined on the first team by Packer teammates Aubrey McCarty, Vann Pitts and Austin Dykes. Tift County’s Alex Abbott, Cole Janousek and Zach Bullard and Coffee’s Keegan McGovern also made the first team.
In addition to four players from Valdosta and three from Lowndes, the second team included three players from Tift (Drew Davis, Bobby Hughes and Will Reinhardt) and two from Coffee (Santory Long and Jordan Purvis).
Colquitt County and Coffee players filled the honorable mention team; each team placed four players on the list. Lowndes’ Nick Higginbotham was the only local player named to the honorable mention list.

Blazers fall to Molloy in eight innings

The Valdosta State softball team made the long journey to Salem, Va. Tuesday, leaving Valdosta at 10:30 a.m. with devoted fans cheering them out of the parking lot.
