Lowndes, Echols softball teams win

Lowndes sweeps Colquitt County

VALDOSTA — Lowndes’ softball team swept a doubleheader against Colquitt County on Tuesday in Moultrie.

The wins improved the Vikettes’ record to 7-2, and 4-0 in Region 1-6A.

In the first game, Tiffany Bishop pitched a shutout and led Lowndes to a 9-0 win. The senior right-hander held Colquitt to just three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two.

At the plate, Chelsea Mefford went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs. Cara Parker was also 2 for 3. Heather Robinson scored two runs, and Madison Floyd had an RBI.

Lowndes completed the doubleheader sweep with a 6-1 win in game 2. Parker and Robinson drove in two runs apiece. Bishop was the winning pitcher, allowing just four hits and an unearned run, while striking out six.

Lowndes will host Cook next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.



Echols routs Wilcox

STATENVILLE — Echols County’s softball team hammered Wilcox County 11-1 on Tuesday.

Elizabeth Young went 2 for 4 with a home run and four runs batted in. Young’s home run gave the Lady Wildcats a 10-run lead and ended the game, due to the mercy rule.

Kameron Coggins went 4 for 4 for Echols. Jordan Lessman and Kiyondra Williams were both 2 for 2. Taylor Carter was the winning pitcher.

Echols will travel to Lanier County on Thursday.
