VALDOSTA —
The Christian Brothers volleyball team remained in first place in the Gulf South Conference with a four-set win over visiting Valdosta State Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.
Christian Brothers won 25-13, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22.
The Lady Bucs (8-3, 3-0 GSC) scored the first 10 points of the match, and rolled to a 25-13 win in the first set. Valdosta State (8-5, 2-3) fought their way back into the match with a 25-22 win in the second set, scoring six of the last nine points after a 19-all tie.
The Blazers led 23-21 in the third set, and needed just two points to win the set, but the Lady Bucs took the next four points and won the set 25-23. Valdosta State also led late in the fourth set, 22-21, but Christian Brothers once again won four straight points, and closed out the match with a 25-22 fourth set win.
Nikki McDaniel and Tania Tauiliili led the Blazers with 11 kills each. Chelsea Luttfring notched a match-best 17 digs. Hope Ripsam and Ashley Lala collected 19 assists each.
Hailey Gillis paced Christian Brothers with 14 kills to go with 11 digs, while Alexis Gillis added 11 kills. Hannah Kurtz tacked on 10 kills, and Kaitlin Keathley hit .556 with 10 kills. Kelsey Miles had 45 assists to go with 11 digs, and Kristina Headrick collected a team-high 16 digs.
The Blazers will travel to Jackson, Tenn. today to face Union at 4 p.m.
