VALDOSTA —
Gerald Ford is the first Blazer to repeat as a Steel’s Jewelry VSU Student-Athlete of the Week while Rebecca Miller earns her first Steel’s Jewelry VSU Student-Athlete of the Week recognition.
Ford has been pacing the Blazers in receiving and put an exclamation point on his season so far this past week against West Alabama.
For the third consecutive game, Ford reached the 100-yard mark in receiving, the first time a Blazers has completed the feat since Calvin Walker in 1992.
Additionally, Ford caught a career high eight catches to rack up his 115 yards for Valdosta State.
For the past three weeks, Ford is averaging 126 yards per game. He has also scored at least two touchdowns in each game the past three weeks with two this week against the Tigers.
Miller, meanwhile, led Valdosta State Soccer’s offense as it scored six goals this week in a 1-1 effort against North Alabama and Montevallo.
She scored two goals on the week, both unassisted, and gave an assist for five individual points. She only took five shots so she averaged a point per shot this week.
One of Miller’s goals was a game winning goal while another was the first goal of the match as she racked up 137 minutes of play.
Miller will lead VSU Soccer against West Georgia and Palm Beach Atlantic on the road this week while Ford will look to keep his streak alive against Edward Waters at home this week.
