VALDOSTA —
There is no new information regarding where former Florida State cornerback Greg Reid will play his senior football season this fall, but that hasn’t stopped fans and certain media members from speculating on the popular social media Web site Twitter.
After being kicked off the Florida State team Wednesday morning, speculation started to swirl that Reid was going to sign with Valdosta State. Some went as far to report that he had enrolled at VSU and was already a member of the university’s football team. Those reports were indeed false.
As of Thursday night, Valdosta State had no new information to report about Reid joining the team, Sports Information Director Shawn Reed told the Times.
Reports out of Carrollton are also indicating the University of West Georgia’s interest in the former Lowndes Viking.
Reid’s high school teammate Kelly Dawsey is reportedly working on getting Reid to join the Wolves, who upset the Blazers in 2011.
When asked about whether he had spoken with Reid about where he could land, Lowndes head coach Randy McPherson said he had not spoken with Reid, nor did he have any information about where he will play this fall.
When news of Reid’s possible future at Valdosta State started to circulate Wednesday evening, many took to Twitter to express their disconcern or joy for the possibility of Reid playing for his hometown university.
Among those that went to the popular social media Web site were members of the Valdosta State football team, many of whom expressed interest in Reid joining the team, but also expressed their views that Reid would have to work to earn a position.
Media publications outside of South Georgia went as far to report that Reid had committed to VSU. In fact, a National Football League Draft Scouting Web site changed Reid’s current school on his scout profile to Valdosta State.
