Local players selected to play in AT&T Junior Bowl

VALDOSTA — Five local players have been selected to play in the Third Annual AT&T Georgia Junior Bowl in Atlanta on Dec. 31.

Valdosta wide receiver Alex Cason, Lowndes linebacker Tre’ Jackson, Valwood defensive back Char Merine, Brooks County wide receiver Derric Herring and Brooks County quarterback Malkom Parrish have all been selected to play in the game that features some of the state’s top-ranked underclassmen.

Altogether, 98 players from around the state were selected to play in the game.

The AT&T Junior Game was created to assist high school juniors with their athletic, academic and social development while preparing for their senior year and instilling in them the necessary tools to thrive academically, athletically and socially.

All players will participate in the five-day event, with the game closing out the week Dec. 31 at Atlanta’s Grady Stadium.

The West team will be coached by Chip Walker of Sandy Creek High School, while the East will be coached by Ware County head coach Ed Dudley. The game will air live on WSB-TV in Atlanta and on-demand viewing will be available on GHSA.tv.

The AT&T Georgia Junior Bowl is held annually in association with AT&T, the NFL Players Association, Rawlings, NFL, and Curing Kids Cancer.

This year the RisingSeniors Foundation Banquet is held on Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. The banquet will be held at the Official Hotel of the AT&T Georgia Junior Bowl, the Westin Hotel in Buckhead.

The banquet is to honor all athletes selected and RisingSeniors.com alums. The Georgia Minority Coaches Association will also give their 1st Annual Player of the Year Award.

This year the RisingSeniors.com football camp will also be offered on Saturday, December 29th for any freshmen, sophomore, or juniors looking to expand their knowledge of the game while learning the fundamentals of their position. The camp is also to find student-athletes for the 2013 AT&T Georgia Junior Bowl.

The camp will be taught by NFL players and High School coaches.
