VALDOSTA —
Ryan Kelly of Lake Park won the 2013 Run 4 Missions four-mile road race on Saturday.
Kelly finished the four-mile run in 23:48, 42 seconds ahead of the next fastest runner.
The next five finishers were all teenage boys from Valdosta. Peter Akiti, an 18-year-old, finished second, with a time of 24:30. Tyler Thurman, 17, was third, running the race in 24:52. Thirteen-year-old Matthew Baun took fourth, with a time of 24:58. Elijah Gilmore, who is 18, came in fifth, finishing in 25:23. The sixth-place finisher was 15-year-old Nathan Crews (26:58).
Justin Brownridge of Valdosta finished seventh, crossing the finish line in 27:12. Rick Mazurkiewicz of Valdosta took eighth, with a time of 27:15. Jacob Bearrentine of Valdosta was ninth, finishing in 27:27. Steven Watts of Hahira came in 10th, with a time of 29:28.
Audrey Williams of Valdosta was the women’s winner. She finished the race with a time of 31:07.
Martha Mazurkiewicz of Valdosta was the second woman to finish, with a time of 31:33. Debbie Green of Valdosta was the third female finisher (31:42). Erin Wilkey, a 10-year-old from Valdosta, finished fourth among the female runners, with a time of 33:04. Misty Watkins was the fifth woman to finish, running the race in 33:23.
Rick and Martha Mazurkiewicz were the male and female masters race winners.
Akiti, Baun, Brownridge, Mark Stalvey of Hahira, Michael Baun of Valdosta, Dorian Osborne of Nashville, Alan Johnson of Valdosta, Shawn Reed of Hahira, Darren McCall of Valdosta, Bob Bowen of Nashville and Dan Osborne of Nashville all finished first in their respective age groups.
Green, Wilkey, Watkins, Angel Godwin of Valdosta, Madeline Posse of Valdosta, Ashley Valerio of Valdosta, Stephanie Mizell of Valdosta, Andrea Ostapski of Valdosta and Faye Large of Valdosta finished first among the women in their age groups.
A total of 100 runners competed in the race.
The four-mile race was sponsored by Valdosta State’s Baptist Collegiate Ministries to raise money for missions work.
The race started and ended at Valdosta State’s main campus, with the course winding through neighborhoods northwest of the university.
Hatton wins Run 4 Missions one-mile race
Kylie Hatton, a seven-year-old from Lakeland, won the Run 4 Missions one-mile race on Saturday. She completed the race in 11:05.
Greg Morris of Valdosta finished second, with a time of 11:09. Laura Bracken of Lakeland was third, finishing in 12:35. Angela Moxley of Norman Park came in fourth, in 14:28. Drew Felts from Moultrie was fifth (14:29).

Gillespie, McPherson pleased with spring practices
Valdosta’s Rance Gillespie and Lowndes’ Randy McPherson both think their football teams got better during the recent 10 days of spring practice.
