TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —
This weekend, Valdosta State’s cross country teams competed at the Florida State Cross Country Invitational.
The Valdosta State men’s team placed three runners in the top 100 at the meet. Jesse Prince finished 38th with a time of 27:06 in the 8K run. Nate Wondimu was 81st at 28:17, while Parker Childree ran the race in 28:46 and was 97th.
Dale Smith placed 106th with a time of 29:17. Ryan Winkel was 116th at 29:41. Avery Pitts tallied a 32:21 to finish 151st. Carlos Ponce was 155th with a time of 32:52.
Florida State finished first in the team competition, with 64 points. Florida A&M was second with 80 points, Kennesaw State was third with 113 points, Embry-Riddle placed fourth with 138 points and Florida Tech was fifth with 162 points. Valdosta State tallied 345 total points.
Valdosta State’s Juliana Boehm covered the 6K women’s course in a time of 23:01 and finished 19th. Ashley Luther ran the race in 24:51 to finish 69th. Sarah Turner finished 81st in 25:08. Danielle Jarnagin was 96th at 25:31, while Taylor Harrington was 110th at 26:09. April Meeks tallied a 26:52 to finish 132nd. Rachel Gutierrez rounded out the squad in 150th at 27:19.
Florida State won the women’s competition as well, earning 72 points. Tampa was second with 101 points, followed by Southern Mississippi with 110 and Jacksonville with 127. South Florida took home fifth place with 132 points. The Valdosta State women registered 317 points.
Valdosta State’s next meet is the Gulf South Conference Championship on Oct. 20 in Birmingham, Ala.
