VALDOSTA —
Under threatening skies, the Valdosta State football team completed its third day of practice Wednesday as the squad completed its third of four scheduled split squad practices.
The Blazers put on pads for the first time in their preseason camp after competing with just helmets the last two days. Blazer head coach David Dean was pleased with practice.
"They look good," Dean stated. "We are starting to experience a little bit of fatigue because of how hot and humid it has been and we are in our third day, but now the mental part sets in. We have to make sure those guys understand that its critical to think when you get tired so that is what we start working on now."
Despite the fatigue, Dean has been pleased with the conditioning of his team through the first three days of practice.
"We are in great shape," he added. "I don't think our guys could go through what we put them through if they hadn't worked hard this summer to get in shape."
Dean and his squad will continue their preparations for their upcoming Sept. 1 season opener at Saginaw Valley State over the course of the next two weeks. The squad will hold one more split squad session today, before coming together as a full unit on Friday.

VSU softball wins South Region, headed to nationals
For the third time in four years, and second in a row, Valdosta State’s softball team will play in the national championship tournament.
The Blazers won their third South Region championship Saturday, beating Alabama-Huntsville 8-3 in game three of the best-of-three series at Steel’s Diamond at Blazer Park. -

Blazers lose to Delta State, fall to loser’s bracket
If the Valdosta State baseball team is going to win the South Region Tournament, the Blazers going to have to do it from the loser’s bracket.
The Blazers (33-17) dropped their first game of the tournament Thursday, falling to Delta State 4-2 at UT Baseball Stadium.
VSU will face Stillman College, which lost to No. 1 seed and tournament host Tampa Thursday, Friday at 11 a.m. to advance to the weekend portion of the tournament. The loser will be eliminated. - More Local Sports Headlines
