SGMP hosting Haltech World Cup this weekend

CECIL — This weekend, the dragstrip at South Georgia Motorsports Park will host the Haltech World Cup, the finals of the Manufacturers Cup Motorcycle Drag Racing Series.

It will be the final event of the 2012 motorcycle drag racing season.

Drivers will be coming from all over the country to compete in the event. There will also be five teams from Europe who have traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to compete in the event.

Among the classes of racing taking place at the event are: Top Fuel, Pro Comp, Pro Street, Pro Dragster, Grudge, Top Gas, Real Street, Crazy 8s, Super Comp, Street Fighter, Pro ET and Street ET.

Tickets for the Haltech World Cup are: $20 for Friday’s qualifying and grudge racing events, $25 for Saturday, $15 for Sunday and $40 for the full event. Kids 12 years old and younger are admitted free.

On Friday, there will be testing, qualifying and grudge racing. The spectator gate will open at 4 p.m. Pro Nitrous, Pro Street, Pro Comp, Pro Dragster and Top Fuel racing will take place from  4-6 p.m., Sportsman round 1 qualifying will last from 6-7:30 p.m., Pro ET and Street ET time trials will go from 7:30-9 p.m. and the grudge test pass will last from 9-9:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the racing will last most of the day. The spectator gates open at 10 a.m. Early round qualifying and eliminations will take place in the morning and afternoon. Pro Round 3 qualifying will begin at 7 p.m. On Saturday evening, there will be Pro ET and Street ET eliminations and Grudgefest racing.

On Sunday, the track will host final eliminations for Pro, Semi-Pro and Sportsman Classes. Opening ceremonies for Sunday’s events will be held at 11:30 a.m. Top Fuel racing begins at noon, then E1 Pro Dragsters, Pro Comp, Pro Street, Pro Nitrous, Real Street, Top Gas, Crazy 8s, Super Comp and Street Fighter motorcycles will race. After that, there will be more Pro ET eliminations. The Pro finals will begin at 6 p.m.
