TAMPA, Fla. —
Valdosta State’s volleyball team dropped to 13-11 on the season with a 3-0 loss to Eckerd on Saturday during the GSC/SSC Regional Crossover tournament.
Eckerd won the match 25-20, 25-23, 25-15.
Valdosta State’s Katie Onushko had a team-high 11 kills and just one error for an outstanding .435 attacking percentage.
In addition to Onushko, Tania Tauiliili was second on the team in kills with eight. Destiny Berry led the team in attacking percentage with a .500 percentage for six kills. Lelalelei Nomura also added six kills, while Nikki McDaniel finished with five.
Ashley Lala had 30 assists for the Blazers. Krista Bradford had nine digs, Nomura added eight and McDaniel had seven.
For Eckerd, Lindsay Biggs led with 22 kills. No other Triton had more than seven. Madison Burr gave out 30 assists, while Emily Schadow added 11. Kaleigh Humphrey led Eckerd with 10 digs. Eckerd improved to 14-7.
Valdosta State had a .273 team attacking percentage and 12 kills in the first set, then had 14 kills in the second set. Despite having the team’s highest attacking percentage (.318) in the third set, the Blazers fell 25-15.
The Blazers return to action on Friday against North Alabama at 7 p.m. at The Complex.

VSU softball wins South Region, headed to nationals
For the third time in four years, and second in a row, Valdosta State’s softball team will play in the national championship tournament.
The Blazers won their third South Region championship Saturday, beating Alabama-Huntsville 8-3 in game three of the best-of-three series at Steel’s Diamond at Blazer Park. -

Delta State scored seven unanswered runs to defeat Valdosta State 7-2 in an elimination game of the NCAA South Region Tournament at the UT Baseball Field Saturday afternoon.

Angela O’Connor launched a pinch-hit two-run home run over the left-field fence, tying the game against Alabama-Huntsville in the bottom of the sixth inning, and sparking the Blazers and their fans along the way.
