Berrien, Cook, Lanier announce 2012 schedules

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Daily Times has recently received the upcoming 2012 football schedules for the Cook Hornets, Berrien Rebels and Lanier County Bulldogs.

Lanier County kicks off regular season play Aug. 24 with a visit from Atkinson County. Cook and Berrien begin play on Aug. 31, when the Hornets host Worth County and the Rebels visit Calhoun.

Cook’s remaining schedule features a game versus Crisp County, a team the Hornets posted wins against in 2010 and 2011.

The Hornets face a short week when they travel to Albany to face Dougherty on Thursday, Sept. 13. Cook returns to action Sept. 28, with a visit from Thomasville.

The Hornets travel to Fitzgerald on the first weekend in October before hosting Pelham and Jefferson County on back-to-back weeks.

Cook returns to Veterans Stadium in Quitman to face the Brooks County Trojans on Oct. 26 before wrapping up the home portion of its schedule on Nov. 2 with a visit from Berrien. The Hornets conclude regular season play at Early County, a game that will begin at 8 p.m.

Lanier County hits the road on Aug. 31 to face Long County, which has posted just one victory since the start of the 2009 season. Lanier County then hosts Calhoun before visiting Berrien on Sept. 14. Following a bye week Sept. 21, the Bulldogs face Turner County (Sept. 28), Charlton County (Oct. 12) and Telfair County (Oct. 26) at home, while facing Wilcox County (Oct. 5), Irwin County (Oct. 19) and Clinch County (Nov. 2) on the road.

The Berrien Rebels, who are currently without a coach following the news that Tony Long would not return after his one season as head coach, will start the season with back-to-back road contests (Calhoun on Aug. 31 and Brantley County on Sept. 7), before spending the next three weeks at Raymond Jones Stadium.

The Rebels begin the near month-long home stand with a visit from Lanier County on Sept. 14, which will be followed up with a visit from Turner County and Early County.

The Rebels’ first region road game of the season will come Oct. 12 with a visit to Thomasville.

The following week, Berrien plays host to Fitzgerald before visiting Pelham and Cook on Oct. 26 and Nov. 2, respectively. The Rebels conclude regular season play Nov. 9 with a visit from Brooks County. A 2012 Clinch County schedule is expected to be released this week.
