VALDOSTA — The Lowndes and Valdosta varsity basketball teams close out regular season play tonight.
Lowndes will host Coffee, while Valdosta hosts Tift County. The girls will tipoff at 6 and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
A win and the Vikettes would earn a share of the regular season Region 1-AAAAA championship. A coin toss would then decide the No. 1 and No. 2 seeding for the region tournament, which begins next Thursday in Tifton, between the Vikettes and Colquitt County Lady Packers.
The Vikettes enter tonight's meeting riding a two-game losing streak after falling to Valdosta last Friday and Colquitt County on Tuesday. The Lowndes boys enter tonight's meeting in fourth place in the region with a record of 2-5 in league play. A win and the Vikings would move into third in the region, trailing Tift County and Valdosta.
A victory for the Lady Wildcats of Valdosta and a Vikettes loss would move the two teams in a tie for the No. 2 seed in the region. If the Vikettes claim a victory over Coffee tonight, then the Lady Wildcats will serve as the third seed in the region tournament.
The Valdosta boys, who face Tift County tonight at 7:30, will serve as the No. 2 seed out of Region 1-AAAAA.
