QUITMAN —
The Brooks County Trojans improve to 5-0 on the season after beating region foe Early County (3-2) 42-8 Friday night at Veterans Stadium.
The Bobcats came into the game with no losses on the road, but that didn’t matter Friday night against the Trojans.
“This was our opportunity to see what we were all about,” Brooks County head coach Maurice Freeman said. “We came out and did a good job. I like the way our guys functioned and played hard. Hopefully we can keep this going and see what kind of run we can make. I say job well done.”
The Trojans took the lead first on their second drive of the game. Trojan quarterback junior Malcolm Parrish completed two deep passes on the 64-yard drive before he capped it off on a 5-yard scramble into the end zone.
On the Bobcats’ ensuing drive, Early County quarterback Jacori Taylor had his pass intercepted by Parrish, who also plays corner back on defense, setting up great field position on offense for the Trojans.
Parrish connected with his favorite target receiver, Deric Herring, on the first play of the short drive for 21-yard touchdown catch. After successful two-point conversion, the Trojans were up 15-0 with three minutes left in the first quarter.
Early County running back senior Ladonis Bryant closed out the first quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run, which capped off a 58-yard drive.
Parrish found Herring again for a 58-yard touchdown to increase the Trojans’ lead in the second quarter. The TD connection made the score 22-6. Towards the end of the quarter Brooks County extended its lead even more.
With less than three minutes left in the first half, Parrish found freshman receiver Tajjauan Jenkins for a 39-yard touchdown catch.
Following an Early County fumble, which Brooks recovered, senior running back Brandon Golden had a 3-yard touchdown run giving the Trojans a comfortable 35-6 lead at halftime.
Early County was forced into two interceptions and a fumble in the first half.
The Trojans increased their large lead yet again in the fourth quarter when Parrish and Herring connected for their third time, getting together on a 57-yard catch.
Parrish finished with five touchdowns and 213 passing yards.
“I’m glad he’s own my team not the other team,” Freeman said. “He’s a very coachable young man. He plays and works hard.”
“It’s special but we can’t be satisfied,” Parrish said. “It makes me feel well but we still got to play hard, focus on our mistakes, and bond as a team.”
Early County earned its final two points of the game on a safety when Brooks County’s Daniel Hodum stepped out of the end zone.
Brooks County faces Thomasville next Friday night.
