Martin wins pole for Daytona 500

Mark Martin started the 2010 season where 2009 left off, capturing his first Daytona 500 pole Saturday at Daytona International Speedway.

Martin was the only driver to top 191 miles per hour during the qualifying session, beating out teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the top position.

Finishing out the top 10 in qualifiers were Ryan Newman, Bill Elliott, Juan Pablo Montoya, Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon.

Earnardt Jr. and Martin are the only two drivers with set starting spots in next Sunday’s race.

The other positions will be determined after the two Gatorade Duel 150 qualifying races that take place on Thursday in Daytona.
